This colorful cast-iron bank is a reproduction of the classic “Trick Dog” mechanical bank, first introduced in 1888 by Hubley Manufacturing of Pennsylvania. Brightly painted and wonderfully nostalgic, it features a circus clown holding a hoop (this one has its hoop - most have lost them), a little black dog ready to perform, and a coin barrel.

This reproduction version was made in Taiwan during the 1970s–1980s, when cast-iron novelty banks were widely produced for the collector market. Place a coin in the dog’s mouth, press the lever, and watch as the dog leaps through the hoop and drops the coin neatly into the barrel. The mechanism still works as intended, making it both fun and decorative. The only thing missing is the original stopper for the underside coin barrel/compartment. With its solid weight and carnival colors, it also makes a great nostalgic display piece or quirky doorstop.

... A circus act that’s retired, but still stealing the show.”
