This ring is a marvellously stylish example of fine pearl jewellery. Natural black saltwater pearls are highly prized, and this ring brings to mind Zuleika Dobson in Max Beerbohm's 1911 satire of undergraduate life at Oxford. Zuleika famously had a black pearl that turned white, which confused and bewitched the Duke who witnessed it!
